Note 4 Root FAQ

There’s two ways to root your Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

If you are going to be installing custom ROMs, see How to Root Galaxy Note 4 using CWM/TWRP Method. (You can get OTA updates by installing stock rooted ROMs when OTA updates are out.  This will allow you to keep root and get OTA updates.)

If you just need to root and you also want to take OTA updates (as installing CWM/TWRP recovery will disable OTA updates), see How to Root Galaxy Note 4.

Need to unroot?  Stuck on bootloop?  See How to Unroot Galaxy Note 4 with Stock Firmware!

How to Install Custom ROM on Galaxy Note 4?

First, make a backup ROM before installing a custom ROM on your Note 4.  See How to Backup/Restore ROM using TWRP Recovery!

Never installed a custom ROM?  See How to Install Custom ROM using TWRP!

How to get OTA updates after rooting?

We recommend you install rooted stock ROMs instead (so you don’t have to re-root) but if you want to take OTA, you can re-install stock recovery.

One thought for some who may not much experience. Do a search for/download a file called:

Store that file on your device, and go to the section that tells about installing a custom recovery. Install one, if you haven’t already, and then install this file you just put on your device. Unlike the CF-Root method that is available, this method doesn’t make any major modifications on the device’s files, it is a universal means of installing a root on ANY device, plus it does not require you to go through several more boots simply to get at the newest version of the root.

Give it a shot. I used it on my phone, and all the programs worked perfectly. I used CF-Root and several programs went down. Certainly worth looking into for that reason alone.

Is there anyway to disable smart dialer on any Note1,2,3 or 4. I want to be able to dial a number without seeing some contact name pop up on my dialer screen.? I think the smart dialer is part of Touchwiz. I’ve searched everywhere but can’t find an answer.

I have the Thailand version note 4 running 5.0.1. My model number is SM-901C. I’m also confused about Knox. I’m hearing that if you root, something about Knox. I’ve rooted my nexus 7 2013 model but didn’t care for it so reverted back. Would love to know if I can root my Note 4 safely. Thanks. This would be only my second time rooting.

Serious question, someone probably already asked, but I can’t seem to find it. I’m new to the note 4 community, and wanted to install a custom rom, probably a lollipop touchwiz one. In any case i have an n910a with ATT, and was wondering if I could install any snapdragon rom i.e one for the n910f or are they model specific?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910T that I purchased to put on my ATT wireless account. This Note 4 will replace my rooted Samsung Galaxy 4. As with my S4, I would like to take advantage of my grandfathered unlimited data plan by enabling free native tethering/hotspot. I was wondering if the method that I used on my S4 to enable free native hotspot will work on the Note 4. I followed the directions to install the tetheringProvisioning.apk and it has worked great without the carrier detecting the hotspot usage so can I use this same method or must I go another route with the Note 4? Also, can I get away with using the 5.01 ROM or will I need to use an older ROM in order to enable free native tethering?

    Hi there

I have a Note 4 from Hong Kong so it is N910U. I tried to root the phone and it was a success, and I had SuperSU. When I checked the “About Device” it said I am using Android 4.4.4, Kernel 3.10, and KNOX 2.2. My question is that how can I upgrade the ROM to Lollipop 5.0.1. I tried but it kept saying E: footer…… Am I doing something wrong? I didn’t use the CWM/TWRP. Am I suppose to? I did it once by installed the CWM/TWRP and it was just a big mess. Note 4 seems to be hard to switch ROM than Note 2. Thank you

Guys stop e, section to be spoon fed also the large majority of Samsung phones from Verizon and att ha e the bootlooder locked and yes using Odin will trip Knox. If in us switch to tmobil they don’t look the Bootloader and generally dont give a dame about nox. (exception s7 and s7 edge is locked. 🙁 it doesn’t seem it was tmobil choice though but Qualcomm with the 820 well see what happens.

Go to Don’t ask but read read read. Till you feel comfortable messing with devices that cost hundreds of dollars and can be permently broken if you screw up.

This is 2 years later and I need a link to an AT&T custom Rom(s). I noticed that this requested was overlooked in a few posts. Why, doesn’t anyone cook any Note 4 at&t custom ROMS, or are they outlawed in the US? LOL!
